Winter as you like it
The winter sports centres in the region are in the Zittau Mountains (Naturpark Zittauer Gebirge) and the Upper Lusatian highlands (Oberlausitzer Bergland). The height difference between the bottom of the Zittau valley and the highest peak, the Lausche, is more than 550 metres. In between there are many opportunities for ski tours, tobogganing, cross-country and downhill skiing. The really daring can also show off their skills at ski-jumping, and particularly creative visitors and locals can outdo the others at the Ski Carnival. Things get really romantic with the torch-lit tobogganing.
Even when winter takes a break one day and there is only a little snow, the wide range of indoor activities guarantee sport as the mood takes you, whether it is ice-skating, the local variant of curling, or ice hockey. Dance lovers can look forward to the discos on ice, while the water parks, from the Trixi-Park in Großschönau to the Körse-Therme in Kirschau, offer tropical fun and warmth in the cold season with their Wellness centres.
