Regional management is the local contact for sub-region development processes and the companies, associations, initiatives and citizens involved in preparing and implementing projects. For example, Regional management supervises regional development projects involving the various federal states with Brandenburg-Lausitz in the Lausitz Lake District and Prince Pückler Land, as well as cross-border development of the trination European region of Neisse-Nisa-Nysa.
The responsibility of Regional management includes coordination of rural development in the Upper Lusatia with the objective of sustainable preservation and promotion of rural areas as attractive spaces for living and working in. The coordination focuses on networking initiatives in the entire region, incorporating products developed locally in Lausitz-based and Saxon production lines and the preparation of regional marketing.
From 2007 – 2013, nine sub-regions in the Upper Lausitz will receive funding under the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). The Integrated Rural Development Concepts drawn up with many different parties are to be implemented in this period. Each region shall be responsible for use of the finances and management. The local LEADER or ILE management teams ensure the cooperation of the people in the regions and support them in designing and implementing new development models for rural areas.
An important instrument of regional development is the interstate cooperation with the Lusatia-Spreewald region. One of its most important products is the joint internet presentation www.lausitz.de. Numerous tourist programs such as Lusatian industrial culture, bicycle tours in Lusatia, Sorbian culture, and water tourism in the Lusatian Land of Lakes were created across the state borders of Saxony and Brandenburg. “Performance – Passion – Lusatia”, the award winning slogan from a special contest, as well as joint marketing instruments and presentations all help strengthen Lusatia’s identity.
