The foodstuffs industry of the Upper Lusatia is characterised by a large number of traditional craft companies, but also by modern industrial companies, which are known far beyond the borders of the region. Gingerbread and fish farming are typical for the Upper Lusatia and deeply rooted in its traditions. Traditional products from the area include Pulsnitz Pfefferkuchen (gingerbread), Lausitz fish and Lausitz linseed oil. Many products, such as Bautzen mustard, Wilthener brandy, Neukircher rusks, Sachsenmilch dairy products, mineral water and alcohol-free soft drinks and health drinks by Oppacher Mineralquellen, Lausitz fruit juices or the approx. 50 different beers from the breweries of the Upper Lusatia, are already sold throughout Germany and exported. Farms and fish farms produce delicious regional specialities like fish, meat, cheese, fruit, vegetables and herbs – many of them are direct marketers and organic producers. Anyone who wants to try this for themselves can follow the "Oberlausitz genießen®" (Savour the Upper Lusatia) signs.
