RockHead - Black Stage: Großschönau to Zittau
A wild section in the border area to the Czech Republic. Challenging paths and short sections of pushing on steep ramps characterize this stage. The reward for the effort is the nearly endless descent down to Zittau. The route takes you past spectacular sandstone rock formations like the Kelchsteine. Before reaching Zittau, you should also plan a stop at the refreshing Olbersdorfer See.
From the end of September to mid-October, there will be disruptions and detours in the area of the Black Stage. More information can be found here. We ask for your understanding and consideration.
Recommended equipment
Gravel bike or mountain bike, bike helmet, bike glasses, patch kit, rain protection, mini pump, bike lock, moisture-wicking jersey
Safety notice
On the Black Stage, shortly before the town of Hain (approx. KM 184), there is a fairly steep hill (up to 16% incline) leading to the Johannisstein. With a fully loaded bike, this can be quite exhausting and you may be forced to walk. For users who find this hill too steep, we recommend going around, taking Jonsdorfer Straße and then Grenzstraße up to Johannisstein. You definitely shouldn’t miss the view!
