Holy Sepulchre - piety meets landscape

The Görlitz replica of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem combines sacred architecture, unique landscape architecture and nature to create a very special place. With a lot of history to boot. The site was created as early as the 15th century. It is the result of a pilgrimage by the Görlitz merchant and later mayor Georg Emmerich. Today, visitors can find a place of peace and spirituality in the middle of the city. With the new e-guide "Stones tell stories", guests can also explore the Way of the Cross from the Holy Sepulchre along the Via Dolorosa and the Church of St. Nicholas, regardless of opening hours.

Squares and fountains

A magnificent sea of flowers and rippling water in Görlitz city center.
When strolling through Görlitz, the generously laid out squares always catch the eye of visitors. With their lavish and colorful planting, they invite you to linger at any time of year and often feature a majestic fountain as the focal point. Probably the most beautiful fountain is the Muschelminna on Postplatz. There are a total of fifteen fountains in Görlitz city center. One of them is a special insider tip: the "Teufel" fountain in Steinstraße near the Annenkapelle chapel is a drinking water fountain.

Green city wall experience

A walk along the city wall is a special experience in historic Görlitz. Large sections of the massive fortifications have been well preserved to the present day and offer a small colorful oasis between the two rings of walls - ideal for autumn days. Between the arches, you also have an interesting view of the private gardens on Neißstraße and Kränzelstraße and, of course, the German-Polish banks of the Neiße.
The Ochsenbastei near the Old Town Bridge and the Nikolaizwinger near St. Peter's Church round off your stroll through the historic Old Town wonderfully. By the way: the Ochsenbastei is a popular wedding photo location for bridal couples.

Görlitz City Park

Like everything else in Görlitz, the city park is historic. It was laid out as early as 1830 and still contains ancient trees today. The Rose Terrace and the Meridian Stone catch the eye during a walk. It marks the 15th degree of longitude, according to which the Central European time zone is aligned. Every year in July, the city park provides a magnificent backdrop for the opening of the ViaThea International Street Theater Festival (next event in 2021). At any other time of year, families will find the adventure playground a welcome destination for a day out.
