Vacation on new shores

Cycling with a view of the lake

The landscape of the Lusatian Lakeland is changing spectacularly. Cyclists are offered exciting insights and views on easy tours of different lengths. The barren world of the former coal mines is gradually disappearing. New lakes are emerging. The best way to watch the exciting birth of the unique water world is on a bike tour.

The Lusatian Lakeland impresses with numerous, networked and well-developed cycle paths. The circular paths around the new lakes are wide, mostly flat and paved. Again and again there are unobstructed views of the water along the lakeshore. For cyclists there are a total of seven long-distance and themed cycle paths that lead through the Lusatian Lake District.

From lake to lake by boat

More than 20 new lakes are waiting to be discovered in the Lusatian Lakeland. The flooding of former open-cast mines creates a spectacular water world that is already offering active recreation by and on the water. Ten lakes will be connected to each other via navigable canals. Leisure captains can already sail across the Koschen Canal from Lake Senftenberg to Lake Geierswalder.

In addition, the young travel destination offers water sports enthusiasts numerous opportunities to go sailing, motor boating, surfing, jet skiing, water skiing, rowing or paddling. Families enjoy a beach holiday at one of the many bathing lakes or a trip on a raft.

Discover industrial culture

For 150 years, mining and coal production shaped the professional and social life of Lusatia. In the past, the monumental buildings and fascinating facilities of the domestic energy industry were closed to the general public. Today some old power plants and briquette factories can be experienced again for visitors. Places full of energy, industrial charm and real mining stories invite you to exciting experiences.

Those who follow the ENERGY route of the Lausitz industrial culture will learn how the region is changing from coal mining to vacation paradise and how the landscape is changing its face. In many places of industrial culture, visitors can experience how coal is converted into energy and how miners lived and worked.

Lusatian Lake District

Huge expanses of water glisten in the sun, families start cycling, stand-up paddlers pull their laps and boats sail on the lake. What is a reality today in the Lusatian Lake District was just a few decades ago a dream that seemed infinitely remote. An attractive travel destination has developed from the lunar landscapes of former lignite opencast mines. In the Lusatian Lakeland, with more than 20 flooded lakes and navigable canals, the largest man-made water landscape in Europe is growing.

The decades of landscape change in the Lusatian Lakeland can be experienced in fast motion on the Lakeland Route. The Lakeland Route is a 191-kilometer long-distance cycle route that connects 16 lakes. The cycle path leads from Großräschener See in the north to Bärwalder See in the south and back again.

Cycling, skating, beach life, boat tours: the Lusatian Lakeland has developed into an exciting travel destination for active vacationers. Europe's largest man-made water landscape offers plenty of active relaxation.
